The best reason given today is the one that is always given when someone says they are the Son of God or the Savior of the World--a dismissal of the claim based upon a belief that the person is going through a period of psychosis. Today Jesus would not be put on the cross; he would simply be institutionalized and heavily medicated--staying medicated until the delusions have passed. I might add this would go not only for Jesus, but also for Ezekiel and the prophets. We must boldly confront the fact that in modern times there is a fervent belief in disbelief. A belief that is airtight because of the eagerly anticipated return of individuals to a more or less normal state of psychological materialism thereby faithfully meeting all modern requirements and expectations.
